US Patent 272,984, granted to Benjamin F. Shibe on Feb. 27, 1883, claims an improved baseball (https://patents.google.com/patent/US272984). Baseball had been in existence long before baseball patents, but this particular patent describes the baseball much as it exists today.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book “The Baseball: Stunts, Scandals, And Secrets Beneath The Stitches” by Zack Hample (https://www.amazon.com/dp/030747545X/) on my recent vacation (thanks, Dad!) and thought that I should share with you which sport (of the four major US sports: basketball, baseball, football, hockey) is best.
It’s baseball. Baseball is the best sport.
